30 Jul 09 # Macbook? Why not? espedine

Well you guys probably already seen it in the papers that Singnet is currently having a promotion for Macbooks and you must be wondering how hefty that $88 a month for a 10 Mbs connection is but here’s the good news for you guys, I crunched the numbers and you’ll be shocked at the results.

Total Cost:

Singnet 10MBS > $1368 ($57 *24 months)

Starhub 12MBS > $1464 ($61 * 24 months)

Singnet 10MBS + MB > $2112  ($88 * 24 months)

Singnet 10MBS + MBP > $2611 ($107 * 24 months)

So now there’s 2 different perspectives to look at, firstly; “I’m buying a macbook anyway so why not, ill save on the internet bills!” so this would work out to be:

$2112 - $1598 (RRP) = $514 ($21 * 24 months)

Is’nt this great? $21 bucks every month for a 10 Mbs connection is a real steal compared to starhub’s $61 and not giving away anything and singnet’s normal plan bonus after you signed on with them for at least 24 months bonus at $44 a month this is a steal, really.

Let’s look at a different perspective now; “I need the internet anyway, so how much am i paying for the macbook really?” punching the calculator would give us:

$88 (w MB) - $57 (w/o MB) = $31 / month for MB

$31 * 24 months = $744

So i’m paying $744 for a white macbook? Yes you are, and at that, saving $854 than buying from Apple itself. And if you are a student, I did some research and found out you can upgrade to a MBP for less than $200! Watch this:

According to hardware zone, the average white macbook sells between 1.2k and 1.3k, assuming you sell yours for 1.2k on a bad day. You are already earning a profit of around $500 bucks (you paid $744 for the MB) so after selling just top it up for a MBP instead from the apple shop, that goes for $1848 for students and it comes with a iTouch 2nd Gen 8Gb($388 worth) for just $23 and a free HP printer worth ($199). With the 1.2k in hand, pay $648 more for a MBP with the above mentioned free items. What you are actually paying is just $744 plus $648 which works out to be a mere $1392 for a MBP, iTouch and a printer!

If you are unhappy with the iTouch and/or printer, sell them easily on HWZ, iTouch goes for $320 easily and the printer for $150 working out to be $470; take that amount off your bill you are just paying $178 for a full upgrade from the Macbook to a Macbook pro. Hope this helped you students who are deciding on paying $500 bucks more for a Macbook Pro and the people in dilemma. Cheers!
